The announcement was made on Monday in a statement issued by the U.S. Department of State after Secretary of State Marco Rubio authorised what the department described as a "whole-of-government response" to counter the ICC.
According to the State Department, the initiative is designed to ensure that the court is unable to investigate, prosecute or otherwise target American military personnel and government officials.
