July 14 (UPI) -- A U.S. marshal was shot and killed while serving an arrest warrant on a fugitive in central Louisiana, federal authorities said.
Little information about the Monday incident has been made public.
The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed in a statement that one of its deputies was killed while serving an arrest warrant for a fugitive in Alexandria, La., a city of around 45,275 people about 90 miles north of Lafayette.
Neither the suspect nor the dead deputy was identified.
