Turkey is focusing its talks with the US on six F-35 fighter jets that it paid for before 2019, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, expressing confidence that “we will soon reach a solution.”
In a television interview, Fidan said Ankara’s current efforts to obtain F-35 aircraft are centered on the six jets already purchased.
“We will soon reach a solution. Therefore, there will be no problem for Turkey to receive the F-35s, which we paid for a long time ago, five or six years ago,” he said.
Fidan added that the planes remain in hangars awaiting delivery. He noted that the US Congress approved the NDAA legislation, which includes a provision concerning Turkey that effectively blocks their transfer.
“There is a relevant provision in the law and I believe we are seeing this issue being resolved,” he said.
