Updated July 14, 2026 — 3:35pm,first published 1:34pmA teenage boy has been charged after allegedly stabbing another student at his south Brisbane school and fleeing the scene.A 17-year-old boy was stabbed about 11.47am on Tuesday at a school near Logan.He was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition, but has since stabilised.A teenage boy has been stabbed at a school in Brisbane.NineThe two boys involved in the altercation were known to each other, police said. The school later confirmed both were students.Officers remained on the scene with paramedics just before 1.30pm and said they were patrolling nearby streets.A 16-year-old boy allegedly fled on foot, and was later arrested inside a vehicle on Gowan Road in the neighbouring Brisbane suburb of Stretton.He was charged with acting to maim, disfigure or disable and unlawful possession of a category M weapon.Police said late on Tuesday the weapon was a “small knife”.The 16-year-old was due to appear at Richlands Childrens Court on July 15.Earlier, the school’s principal confirmed the injured student was “doing OK”.“You can imagine it would be quite traumatic for everybody in the school, everybody involved, and especially for the parents,” he told 4BC.“It was quite quickly contained. It was between two students who knew each other, so there is nothing more to worry about for rest of the students and staff members.”The school emailed parents to tell them students would be dismissed about an hour earlier than usual, after “an incident on campus”.“This decision … is a precautionary measure to support the wellbeing of our students and staff and to allow the college to appropriately manage the situation,” the school said.“There is no ongoing risk to the college community. As the matter involves the privacy of individuals, we are unable to provide further details.”The director of educational operations told media the school was cooperating with police, and prioritising staff and student wellbeing.He said a “significant amount of information” was circulating online, and urged the community to refrain from sharing inaccurate or unverified details.“We respectfully ask that members of the public refrain from sharing or commenting on speculation and misinformation, as doing so may cause unnecessary distress to those affected, and could compromise the integrity of an ongoing investigation.”It is the second stabbing at a Queensland school in as many days.On Monday, a 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being stabbed at a school at Manunda in Cairns.Another 15-year-old was charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and was due to face Cairns Children’s Court on Tuesday.Start the day with a summary of the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights.
