The Borno State Government in collaboration with Malaria Consortium has flagged off the distribution of five million nets and essential drugs to curb malaria threat the state.
Speaking during the flag-off in Maiduguri on Thursday, the state Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Baba Malam Gana said a tracking device has been introduced to ensure that the nets are not hoarded and resell by officials.
He said, “Borno State is among the four states in Nigeria that were given this five million nets. We had a training meeting in Abuja. The micro planing has already been done and tomorrow, I will inaugurate the committee on the net distribution.”
According to him, the committee will comprise health workers, traditional institutions, local government, religious leaders, civil societies, the military, and the police.
“We have already signed the consignment for the Southern part to be stored in Biu and Kwayar Kusar, so that it will be a lot easier for us to distribute them from there,” he added.
