Businesses across Nigeria are accelerating integration into the National Revenue Service’s e-invoicing framework as compliance requirements for large taxpayers take effect and medium taxpayers prepare to join the platform later this year.
According to a statement signed by the Country Director of DigiTax Nigeria, Olumide Akinsola, the transition has prompted increased engagement among the Nigeria Revenue Service, accredited platform providers and technical partners to support business onboarding.
Under the NRS e-invoicing framework, businesses are required to transmit invoices through the Merchant Buyer Solution platform, where each transaction is validated and assigned an Invoice Reference Number, which serves as proof of compliance.
The NRS, in an implementation notice issued on February 17, warned that businesses that fail to complete integration could face compliance measures once enforcement begins for their category.
It also stated that buyers transacting with non-compliant suppliers may be unable to claim Value Added Tax input credit on such transactions.
