Carol Vorderman has revealed she was left concussed after falling over a tree root near her home, which led to her being hospitalised after hitting her head22:41, 13 Jul 2026Carol Vorderman has praised a little-known therapy for helping her after being left unconscious. The former Countdown star needed treatment following a fall near her home, resulting in her hitting her head.‌Vorderman, 65, hit her head after falling over a tree root close to her home and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. She was eventually discharged, only to be rushed back to Accident and Emergency again.‌Addressing her Instagram followers, she said: "I've got a bit of a story to tell you about my concussion, which might also explain why I was a bit offline in June. So, right at the very end of May, I was walking just outside my house on a public footpath, and I tripped over a tree root, which I didn't see, and I went smash here on the tarmac path, and I was unconscious.‌"I can't remember what happened then, but I do know that an ambulance came, and I was taken to the BRI, the Bristol Royal Infirmary. By the way, I also know that they were playing 'The Final Countdown' in the ambulance on the way. It's another story, but it did make me laugh."She went on to add: "Discharged next day, massive vomiting, all the bad signs, uh, straight back into hospital. They were wonderful. They did all the CT scans and everything. Out again. Oh, I had the biggest black eye, all bruises all down my face for three, four weeks.‌"But what it did leave me with after about two or three weeks was dizziness. So I felt as though I was walking on a moving ship, knocking into the wall a little bit. And when I was in bed, when I put my head back on the pillow, I'd be like, 'Whoa, the room's spinning.' So I thought, 'I've got to sort this.'"‌Carol later explained that she had found somebody who offered the "Epley technique", which was used to help her with the symptoms. She went on to say: "Anyway, this is all about how a wonderful young woman called Sophie has sorted it for me. And it's something called the Epley technique. I am not a doctor, I am not advising people about this, but I'm just telling you what's happened to me."She's at Blue Sky down at Bristol Harbour. And it's a technique called the Epley technique, and it's when you have what's called BBPV. So it's all about the inner ear and this little sack of crystals that gets dislodged, and she puts it back together again, basically."The broadcaster explained that the treatment involved Carol sitting upright on the doctor's bed with her legs sticking out. The physiotherapist held Carol as she looked at her, then threw her back. "When she did it the first time, I thought I was falling off the edge of the earth. I really did," she said, explaining that her eyes looked like a "cartoon".‌After just three sessions with the physio, Carol has since been discharged and told fans she "couldn't be happier". The upload, which has been liked thousands of times, was soon flooded with messages of support. One fan said: "OMG, thank goodness you're back to normal now, and thanks for the tip about the Epley technique, never heard of it, so good to know there's something that helps.""Hope you're doing well now," said another. While a follower went on to write: "So glad you've recovered, Carol." "Oh, wow, that's awful, so glad you're better now," added an Instagram user.Article continues belowLike this story?
