U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States is re-imposing a naval blockade on Iran, stating that, from now on, vessels from Iran and its customers will be barred from entering or exiting the Strait of Hormuz, while other countries will be allowed to use the strategic waterway freely.
In a post published on the Truth Social platform on Monday, July 13, Trump wrote that the Strait of Hormuz is open and will remain open “with or without Iran.” He added that the U.S. government is resuming a naval blockade of Iran, which, according to him, will exclusively target ships belonging to Iran or its customers.
The U.S. president also declared that, from now on, the United States will be recognized as the “Guardian of the Strait of Hormuz” and will assume responsibility for securing this maritime transit route.
Trump further wrote that, to establish security in this highly contested waterway, the U.S. will collect 20 per cent of the value of all transiting cargo as a fee for this mission. According to him, the implementation process and mechanism for this plan will begin immediately.
