Despite a strong showing so far this season from starter J.T. Ginn, the A’s rotation has lacked reliable production; Luis Severino has been out with a shoulder strain since late May, and fellow veterans Jeffrey Springs and Aaron Civale have ERAs of 6.08 and 5.42, respectively.Emerson, 54, started his coaching career in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization before joining the A’s as a minor-league pitching coach in 2003. He joined the big-league staff as bullpen coach in 2015. He was promoted to replace longtime pitching coach Curt Young in 2017.The Athletics made the postseason three times with Emerson as pitching coach — in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
