Gafoor, 70, of Kallidaikurichi and his wife Jannath Beevi, 65, who were on their way to a hospital on a bike, were killed when a speeding private bus hit their vehicle from behind at Palayamkottai in the district on Monday.While a trader near the accident site blamed rash driving on the part of drivers of private buses for increasing fatalities on the road, another witness said Gafoor could have lost balance and got hit by the bus from behind when he tried to avoid a protruding underground drainage manhole.Bus driver Muthuraj, 25, Vasavappapuramm was arrested.
