The Argentinian Government has awarded 700MW of battery energy storage system (BESS) in its latest tender, AlmaSADI, covering the entire country.

Launched earlier this year, the tender sought BESS capacity with a 4-hour duration across the country and ended up receiving 235 bids with a combined 8.3GW. Interest in BESS in the Argentinian market continues to be high, as the previous tender, which awarded 713MW BESS last year, attracted 1.3GW of applications, however that tender solely focused on Buenos Aires.

Wholesale market operator CAMMESA (Compañía Administradora del Mercado Mayorista Eléctrico Sociedad Anónima) selected 20 projects in the AlmaSADI tender, with Argentinian renewables developer Genneia securing the most volume with 421MW across seven projects, followed by fellow developer DQD Energy with 149.5MW across eight projects, as shown in the treemap below.
