Birla Tyres is looking to ramp up its distribution reach in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as the tyre manufacturer wants to focus more on the South.Capacity utilisation at the tyre maker’s Balasore plant in Odisha is increasing in every quarter, said Anurag Choudhary, CMD & CEO, Himadri Speciality Chemical, one of the owners of Birla Tyres.“Currently, we are exporting products to the Middle East and African countries. We expect the Balasore plant to attain full capacity utilisation in the next three years. After that we will start exporting the products to the US and Europe as well,” Choudhary told businessline. The current daily capacity of the Balasore plant is around 400 tonnes. Birla Tyres manufactures tyres for commercial vehicles, agriculture, construction–industrial–mining (CIM).Birla Tyres Ltd is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Himadri Speciality Chemical, India’s largest speciality carbon black maker. Himadri and Dalmia Bharat Refractories jointly acquired the tyre company in 2023 through the corporate insolvency resolution process. The Kolkata bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) had approved the resolution plan for the acquisition of BK Birla group firm Birla Tyres under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.“The Birla Tyres plant, recommissioned during the year, is scaling operations around a modernisation and automation roadmap. The division’s product portfolio is being expanded across agricultural, mining and speciality tyre segments, with new products already introduced. Moreover, plans are underway to commission its PCR facility in the next two years to cater to tyres for EVs and SUVs,” Himadri Speciality Chemical said in its annual report for 2025-26.Business targetFrom revenues of a mere ₹187 crore in the last financial year, the business is expected to scale to around ₹3,000 crore in the next few years, catalysed by product diversification, operational efficiency and expanding market presence.“We are getting good response from all the regions generally. The South is where we have to focus more. Our products are going strong in the North, East, and West. In the South, basically, we will be focussing on three States —Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. We are looking to ramp up distribution reach in these States,” Choudhary added. In the annual report, Himadri said Birla Tyres business is being repositioned from a legacy bias-tyre manufacturer into a premium but affordable, technology-backed, application driven mobility solutions business.“This transformation is being enabled through targeted investments in manufacturing modernisation, product development, distribution architecture and brand renewal. These investments are being undertaken with capital discipline, resulting in a structurally low break-even point and resilience across market cycles,” it said.Published on July 13, 2026
