Argentine President Javier Milei confirmed that he will travel to Brazil on July 25 to attend the launch of Flávio Bolsonaro's presidential campaign for the Liberal Party (PL) in São Paulo. The announcement was made Friday (10) during an interview with Radio Now. Milei also said he plans to stop in Brasília to "greet Jair Bolsonaro," who is currently under house arrest. Any visit to the former president would require authorization from Brazil's Supreme Federal Court, as he is only allowed to receive family members, doctors, lawyers and healthcare staff under an order issued by Justice Alexandre de Moraes.Milei made no mention of meeting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with whom he has a strained relationship. The two also failed to meet at the Mercosur summit in Asunción after the Argentine president canceled his attendance at the last minute.
The trip comes less than a month after Flávio Bolsonaro met Milei at the Quinta de Olivos, the Argentine president's official residence, where Milei said that "the blue wave is reaching Brazil through Flávio Bolsonaro." On the eve of the announcement, Flávio also pointed to the advance of right-wing victories across the region, saying that "Brazil is still trapped in the past," but that this would change in October, when elections are held.
