Ceramicist Sam, 29, is the son of Queen Elizabeth II’s niece, Lady Sarah Chatto, and her husband Daniel Chatto.‌He shared the news on Instagram, writing: “I’m really delighted to say that Ellie and I are engaged. And we couldn’t be happier. I proposed with a porcelain ring which I made.”‌Sam and his fiancé Ms Ekserdjian- who is a 29-year-old painter and film artist known as Ellie - live together in London. Lady Sarah Chatto and Daniel Chatto, and Ms Ekserdjian’s parents, Professor David Ekserdjian and Susan Moore, are said to be delighted at the couple’s happy news.‌Sam’s artistic flair is inherited from his father, Daniel Chatto, a former actor turned renowned painter. He wed Lady Sarah Chatto, the daughter of Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, niece of Queen Elizabeth II and cousin of King Charles III, in 1994.Samuel, who has a rich artistic lineage, shared: "I've always had a strong affinity with creating objects, having spent much of my childhood crafting imagined landscapes and sculptural models, which naturally led me to clay during my later years at school."‌In 2024, Sam was granted special permission to invite Ellie to spend Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham. In previous years, royal couples had to wait to be married until they were invited to the annual royal festive celebrations in Norfolk.The rule was broken in 2017 so Meghan Markle could attend the royal’s Christmas, whereas other notable royals such as Princess Kate and Mike Tindall had to wait until they tied the knot.‌Sam, who is 30th in line to the throne and does not hold any official royal titles or duties, met Ellie while they were both studying at the University of Edinburgh and have been dating since 2021.Sam is the eldest of Princess Margaret's four grandchildren.
