Mumbai Airport Authority of India (AAI) has said construction of terminals and expansion of facilities at 14 of its airports is on track for completion in CY 2026.Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal at Jodhpur airport on July 4. Air India and IndiGo moved operations there on Sunday. In the coming months, new facilities would be opened in 14 airports including Chennai and Goa. “The projects are on track. This will support the expansion plans of new airlines and the second phase of Udan,” said an AAI official. Domestic airlines added over 30 aircraft in first half of 2026. Network expansion has been led by Akasa Air and IndiGo. Akasa Air is targeting 30 per cent expansion in this fiscal as it continues to induct planes.Modernising AirportNew capacity is being created at airports to accomodate the growing fleet. Noida International Airport in Jewar began operations in June and new airport in Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh is due to be inaugurated this month.AAI is carrying out ₹4500 crore capex in FY27 to support the growth. This is in addition to around ₹4500 crore incurred last year.“The capex has primarily focused on capacity expansion and modernisation of airport infrastructure. This includes construction of new terminals, expansion or upgradation of existing terminals, airside infrastructure like runways, aprons, taxiways and other associated passenger facilities,” the official said. Around 30 aircraft parking bays were commissioned in 2025, he added.The AAI airports where new terminal capacity is being added this year include Agra, Belgaum, Chennai, Darbhanga, Goa, Hubballi, Imphal, Jammu, Kadappa, Leh, Patna, Rajahmundry, Udaipur and Vijaywada.Published on July 13, 2026
