The police nabbed a 21-year-old youth accused of snatching a 97-gram gold chain from a 63-year-old woman in Cheenya village of Nagamangala taluk in Mandya district.The police said the victim Bhagya, a resident of Cheenya village, was walking near Somanalamma Temple in Cheenya around 5.45 p.m. on July 1 when a person riding a motorcycle approached her from behind and snatched the gold chain from her neck and sped away.A case was registered at Nagamangala Rural Police station, and a special team was constituted to trace the accused.The team took the accused, identified as Vinay Kumar, into custody on the Magadi-Jalsoor road that passes through a forest area, near Tattahalli village, at Nagamangala taluk on July 8. The accused is a delivery executive who resides in Ganige village in Mandya taluk.The police recovered the gold mangalya chain and motorcycle from him. The total value of the recovered property is estimated at around ₹10 lakh, the press statement said, while adding that Mandya District Superintendent of Police V.J.
