Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to suspend the proposed review of registration fees for the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination and the National Examinations Council Senior School Certificate Examination.

He described it as “a victory for the Nigerian people.”

FG on Monday suspended the proposed review of registration fees for the 2027 WASSCE and NECO SSCE, withdrawing its June 18, 2026 letter on the planned adjustment to allow for broader consultations with stakeholders.

The ministry said the proposal was informed by rising operational costs but was put on hold following public concerns and in line with the government’s commitment to inclusive, evidence-based policymaking.

Reacting in a post on his X account on Monday, Obi commended the government for reversing the policy following widespread public opposition but argued that the proposed increase should not have been introduced.
