The incident took place as Clayton strangled the woman on February 17, before calling 999 to report himself to the police.‌Officers arrived on scene at 12.48pm alongside the London Ambulance Service. The victim was found in her bedroom and was pronounced dead at the scene.‌Clayton was taken to custody and either answered no comment or remained silent and pretended to be asleep during interviews.
