With the continuous rise in prices of precious metals along with an increase in prices of some food items, retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 4.4 per cent in June as against 3.9 per cent of May, government reported on Monday. This is the first time since January 2025, when the headline number has crossed the 4 per cent mark.Silver jewellery recorded highest inflation rate at over 133 per cent, followed by ginger (50 per cent), gold/diamond/platinum Jewellery (37 per cent), tomato (32 per cent), Raisin (kishmish) and monacca (21 per cent). At the same time, potato continued to be the item with the lowest inflation (-20 per cent), followed by peas (-10 per cent), motor car & jeep (-7 per cent), cumin (-4 per cent) and motor cycle & scooter (-3.5 per cent).Published on July 13, 2026
