Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed on July 12 that she is stepping down after President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a broad government reshuffle, a move that has surprised members of the ruling Servant of the People party and triggered speculation about the reasons behind the decision.
Svyrydenko, who took over as prime minister from Denys Shmyhal in July 2025 after previously serving as economy minister, said she had met with Zelensky to discuss the challenges facing Ukraine, the changes needed to strengthen the government's work, relations with international partners, and the country's next steps. "I am grateful to the president for his trust and for his high assessment of our team's work. I am proud to have had the honor of leading the government during one of the most difficult periods in Ukraine's modern history," she wrote, adding that she remains ready to continue serving Ukraine in a new capacity.
Zelensky thanked Svyrydenko for her work and said she would now oversee "a new and important area of relations with a key partner." He explained that Kyiv is "changing its political strategy," with experienced officials being assigned responsibility for key foreign policy priorities and implementing agreements reached with international partners. According to the president, "implementing these changes requires a renewal of the Cabinet of Ministers."
