Plans to cap donations to political parties would limit the ability of Reform to boost security for its MPs, Nigel Farage has warned.

Fears over personal protection for Reform’s eight MPs and other senior figures in the party have been heightened by the murder of Ann Widdecombe at her home in Devon last week.

Devon and Cornwall police said on Sunday there was nothing to suggest the killing was politically motivated but were continuing to keep an open mind.

A friend of Farage said the party leader was concerned about the level of protection his party’s MPs were receiving from the state in the wake of the murder.

The Reform leader, who has faced scrutiny over his financial affairs, has insisted donations to him personally and the party are to fund security due to the level of abuse and death threats he receives.
