The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) of the police in Coimbatore on Sunday (July 12, 2026) arrested two persons with 21 kg of ganja that they smuggled into Coimbatore from Andhra Pradesh in an ambulance.A. Manikandan (28) of Kurumbar Street at Peelamedu in Coimbatore and his friend B. Veerachinnamaruthu (28) of Kattikulam near Manamadurai in Sivagangai district were arrested with the contraband.According to the PEW, Manikandan and ambulance driver Veerachinnamaruthu procured ganja from Ichchapuram in Andhra Pradesh, with a plan to sell them at higher rates in Coimbatore and surrounding areas.As enforcement agencies tightened anti-drug checks on trains, buses, and other modes of transport, the duo used an ambulance to smuggle ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Coimbatore.Based on specific information, PEW Inspector Miadit Mano and his team apprehended the duo from Ukkadam – Sungam bypass near Valankulam flyover on Sunday morning. The contraband and the ambulance were seized from them.The police arrested them under different Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
