Thiaw’s side conceded two late goals and a penalty in extra time.Senegal had qualified for the knockout stage as one of the best eight third-place sides in the group stage, with a five-goal win over Iraq following defeats to France and Norway.“After a thorough evaluation of the sporting results and prospects of the national team, the Executive Committee deemed it necessary to initiate this procedure in the best interests of Senegalese football,” an FSF statement read.It added that FSF president Abdoulaye Fall will hold a press conference on Monday to explain the “reasons behind this decision” and “to discuss the future”.In May, the FSF “categorically” denied that Thiaw refused to travel with the team to the United States as they began their preparations for the World Cup. Reports from Africa had suggested Thiaw refused to board a flight, due to his contract with the FSF having expired in February, delaying the team’s travel plans.
