Following a slew of other high-profile JRPG ports, Nintendo has added another one to the pile in the form of an expanded Granblue Fantasy port.10:00, 12 Jul 2026Granblue Fantasy Relink - Endless Ragnarok is yet another meaty JRPG that looks and plays great on Nintendo Switch 2. Just know that you'll have to sink serious time in to see the new stuff.‌It may have only been out in the wild for just over a year, yet already the Nintendo Switch 2 has become somewhat of a JRPG powerhouse. Between Persona 3 Reload, the recent Dragon Quest remasters, both Final Fantasy 7 Remake ports, and standout 2025 GOTY contender Octopath Traveller 0, Nintendo and its third-party partners have you covered when it comes to undergoing a grand adventure as a party of heroes - whether you enjoy doing so via real-time or turn-based combat.‌It wasn’t all that surprising, then, to see the latest instalment in Cygames’ wildly successful Granblue Fantasy series come over. However, it’s done so as a Switch 2 exclusive, with a frankly unbelievable amount of content to play through.‌Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok is a bigger, more ambitious version of the 2024 original released for PS4, PS5, and PC, bringing with it all-new endgame content in the form of fresh missions, bosses, and companions. It replaces the three planned post-release updates the developers originally promised in favour of an expansion that is roughly 1.5x the size of the original game so, yeah, I can see why this isn’t available on the original Nintendo Switch. You’d think that cramming so much fast-paced, JRPG goodness would be a challenge to shrink down on Nintendo Switch 2. And yet, as I’ve been pumping in the hours into this version throughout the week, believe me when I say that Granblue Fantasy Relink holds up pretty well on the platform.‌For those unaware, the original Granblue Fantasy: Relink centres on a group of skyfaring pirates who set off on a journey in search of a mythical land called Estalucia. That said, as you’d expect, it isn’t long before Gran and their trusty crewmates end up running into more than they bargained for, and are forced to fight for their lives against pretty baffling odds.As a complete newcomer to the series I can’t speak to how this story compares to previous Granblue entries, yet the camaraderie between the player-character and starting roster of party members is proving enough to pull me through. Granblue Fantasy: Relink throws a lot of information at you fast and expects you to try and keep up, and this is even without touching the Endless Ragnarok content. From a technical perspective, though, what you’re getting is an open-world(ish) third-person fantasy action RPG that doesn’t offer a dedicated performance and fidelity mode, but still runs fairly smooth at what appears to be 40fps. Is it ideal that Granblue Fantasy: Relink couldn’t hit the smooth 60fps when other, similar sized JRPGs have already done so on Nintendo Switch 2? Yes. But given the level and sheer ambition of the action that regularly plays out on screen, I’d say it’s a miracle it’s managing to run as efficiently as this at all.‌To the skiesPlaying through Granblue Fantasy: Relink on Switch 2 very much puts me in mind of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection at the beginning of the year. Much like that game it presents several regions to explore, fun companions to do it with, and some seriously impressive visuals to go along with it. However, Relink focusing heavily on real-time as opposed to the more Pokemon inspired turn-based fights that goes hand-in-hand with creature collecting helps give Cygames’ title an urgency that works perfectly well with the immediacy of the story.I’m absolutely nowhere near reaching the meat that is Granblue Fantasy: Relink’s endgame Endless Ragnarok campaign. That said, I did manage to get a sense of it at an in-person preview event held in the middle of last month, and I feel confident in saying that it’ll deliver more of what long-time fans love. Introducing a new breed of super-strong monsters called Ragnalia, wailing on them using all my party's different active abilities, Skybound Arts, synch attacks, and summons - such as the menacing Furycane - all melds together to have battles deliver the good kind of grind that JRPG fans often seek.Perhaps most interesting to me, however, is the new roguelike mode that Endless Ragnarok introduces called The Conflux. Tasking you and your party to jump through various themed portals, you never know exactly what type of battle will await you on the other side during your mission to gain different auras (perks, essentially).‌One might see you fight a gaggle of small enemy groups, while another plays out in traditionally epic boss fight fashion. The Conflux doesn’t exclusively even challenge you to fight either, as one randomised instance had me playing a game of Spot the Difference while aboard my very own Grandcypher airship. The appeal of a roguelike seemingly knows no bounds, and Endless Ragnarok is just the latest to prove it.All in all, while I am far from an expert on the series and still have dozens of hours to go before reaching the endgame campaign on Nintendo Switch 2, Granblue Fantasy Relink - Endless Ragnarok is comfortably another nice addition to Nintendo’s JRPG catalogue. In fact, were it not for this version of the game I likely would have felt too intimidated to check it out, so it’s a good thing that there’s plenty of joy to be had when working together to defeat monsters in mostly smooth-running, real-time battles.Article continues belowIf, for some reason, you’re craving yet another meaty JRPG fix on the platform, Granblue Fantasy Relink - Endless Ragnarok is a more than solid Nintendo Switch 2 port that will have you engaged with its story and characters for hours.
