Kwankwaso Condemns Tinubu Govt Over 20-Year Census Delay, Says Nigeria Planning With Frozen Data

Kwankwaso, who warned that Nigeria is making critical national decisions based on obsolete data, said that the country is flying blind.

Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has criticised the Nigerian government over its failure to conduct a national Population and Housing Census in the past 20 years.

Kwankwaso, who warned that Nigeria is making critical national decisions based on obsolete data, said that the country is flying blind.

In a statement shared on his X account on Saturday, July 11, to commemorate World Population Day 2026, Kwankwaso described the prolonged delay as a major setback to national planning, governance, and equitable development.

He recalled that Nigeria's last national Population and Housing Census was conducted in 2006, leaving the country dependent on outdated population figures despite significant demographic changes over the past 20 years.
