Speaking after visiting the survivors at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, Makinde said many of the victims were in a frail condition and would require extensive medical attention, including treatment for trauma suffered during their ordeal.
The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Saturday visited the rescued pupils and teachers of Oriire Community Primary School at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, where they are receiving medical treatment and psychological care following their release from more than 50 days in captivity.
The governor, who addressed journalists after meeting with the victims, disclosed that the rescued schoolchildren and teachers would remain under medical observation for the next 48 hours before a decision is taken on their transfer from military custody to the Oyo State government.
The victims were abducted by gunmen on May 15, 2026, in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and spent over 50 days in captivity before they were rescued on Friday afternoon in an operation involving security forces.
