NEW YORK — With a Triple-A pitcher called up for a spot start and a utilityman smacking an early two-run homer, the Boston Red Sox, having now won eight straight games, keep winning with an unlikely formula.Their latest victory was a 4-0 win over the New York Mets on Saturday, earned on the strength of Eduardo Rivera’s 3 2/3 scoreless innings, a key fourth-inning two-run homer from Andruw Monasterio and a late insurance shot from Masataka Yoshida. The win moved the Red Sox within a half-game of the third American League wild card spot. They have now won 13 of their last 15 games with one game to go before the All-Star break.“It feels good, obviously,” interim manager Chad Tracy said. “You felt the vibes at times and we were struggling — struggling to score — and didn’t feel like things were going right. And now we’re enjoying a stretch here. We’re doing a lot of things right. We’re throwing the ball great. We’re getting clutch hits, we’re scoring runs early. We’re stretching pitch counts on starters. We’re doing a fantastic job. So we just got to keep playing good baseball.”After their travel fiasco from Chicago ahead of the series opener, a slightly more refreshed Red Sox team wore newly made T-shirts Saturday before the game to commemorate their nightmarish journey. The white T-shirt pictured a plane on the front that read “Show and Go Airlines,” referencing their hustle from the airport to Citi Field on Friday with little time to prepare.

Boston doesn't seem to have much of a formula to its newfound hot streak, but whatever the Red Sox are doing lately is working.
