The 20-year-old sophomore hit .352 for the Scarlet Knights, and he projects to be a plus center fielder, but you’re not reading this for his scouting report. You’re reading this because he’s the nephew of Barry Bonds and grandson of Bobby Bonds, two baseball legends.More specifically, those are two Giants legends, with the two Bondses combining for almost 3,000 games in a Giants uniform and 14 All-Star Games. While there’s no such thing as a grand-godson, you might as well add Willie Mays (Barry’s godfather) into the lineage. This is a player who grew up thinking Giants thoughts for his entire life, joining the organization that makes for the most interesting pairing of the entire draft.Don’t let the name deceive you, though: the youngest Bonds wasn’t raised by a baseball superstar, but by Bobby Bonds Jr., who spent seven seasons in the minors and another five after that playing in the independent Atlantic League. That’s a grinder’s path, not a superstar’s path, and it’s easy to think those lessons will be just as valuable for a third-round pick as anything he could have gleaned from his more famous uncle.Still, the Giants will have a Bonds in the organization again, like they did for the 1970s, 1990s and 2000s.
