Indonesia’s top corruption prosecutor resigned yesterday, days after a police raid of his house uncovered gold bars and millions of dollars in cash.Prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah stepped down as junior attorney general for the Special Crimes division, Indonesia’s Attorney General’s Office said, adding that his departure is intended to safeguard the integrity, objectivity and neutrality of law enforcement while police investigations continue. The statement did not mention a successor.

Adriansyah’s departure is the biggest fallout yet from a widening investigation that has drawn the country’s police, prosecutors and military into a rare public controversy. Police have searched more than a dozen locations and seized gold, cash and foreign currencies while investigating alleged corruption and money laundering involving several state-linked companies.Adriansyah was one of Indonesia’s highest-profile corruption prosecutors, overseeing the unit that handles major graft cases, including probes involving state miner Timah, oil company Pertamina and airline Garuda Indonesia. He had also led the charge in cases involving former Indonesian minister of education, culture, research and technology Nadiem Makarim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s free meals program.
