Three youths who were allegedly subjected to public humiliation recently by a group of people after accusing them of drug peddling in Perumbavoor on Saturday (July 11, 2026), have come out against the police.The youths whose heads were forcibly tonsured by a group of local people alleged that the police were helping the accused weaken the case.Gokul Deepak of Manjappetty, Albin Shaji of Kandanthara, and Mohammed Alfas of Manjappetty said they would approach the National Human Rights Commission over the police’s handling of the case. They addressed the media in Perumbavoor a day after the Perumbavoor Judicial First Class Magistrate Court granted bail to the six accused arrested in the case.They alleged that though more people were involved in the assault, no action had been taken against them.The trio were allegedly assaulted, stripped, publicly humiliated, and forcibly tonsured by a mob, which accused them of supplying ganja to a schoolboy. The youths were put through a public trial on the premises and inside a soda factory.Sindhu Deepak, mother of Gokul Deepak, said her son was being defamed on social media as a cannabis dealer and a thief after the incident. Albin Shaji’s mother Jaya Shaji and Mohammed Alfas’ father Mohammed Sherif also attended the press conference.District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) K.S. Sudarshan, meanwhile, said that the police had promptly arrested the accused in the case. He said if more people were involved in the incident, action would be taken against them.
