When Yeonjun of famed K-pop group Tomorrow X Together made his solo debut in 2024, he told USA TODAY "I'm going to keep challenging myself." Since then, he's done just that and reached new heights with his solo career.In 2024, "GGUM" marked his first solo entry onto the Billboard charts, hitting No. 4 on World Digital Song Sales chart. About a year later, Yeonjun released his first EP "NO LABELS: PART 01", continuing the momentum and debuting at No. 10 on Billboard 200.Now, Yeonjun, 26, wants to keep pushing forward with "NO LABELS: PART 02", out now."I really wanted to show who I am," Yeonjun tells USA TODAY. "This is my identity, this is who I am, this is what I can do. There are a lot of facets that I want to deliver and show people out there. It was actually a very introspective journey for me."How Yeonjun's 'NO LABELS: PART 02' came to be"PART 01" released Nov. 7, 2025. "After we fixed the track list for 'PART 01,' we still had so many amazing songs, so we definitely wanted to save them," Yeonjun says.Those tracks eventually made the final cut of "PART 02." The six-song EP dives deeper into Yeonjun's sonic identity, expanding into rap rock, R&B, pop and alternative hip-hop.While he wanted the two EPs to be distinct parts of a whole. "I wanted to make sure that 'PART 01' and 'PART 02' seem like a continuation of each other. I wanted them to be linked sonically."Breaking down 'NO LABELS: PART 02' track listThe title track for 'PART 01', "Talk to You," was very charismatic and strong, Yeonjun says. "So for 'Part 02', I wanted a title track that was very much relaxed and chill, but still being very energetic."That's how track "Ice Cream" assumed the role, "because it filled that void," he adds. "They're on the same line, but they have different vibes.""PART 02" served as a reflection point for Yeonjun."Through this album I really got to be frank with myself. I think everyone can be pretty pretentious to some extent," he says. "They try to pretend (in order) to be shown a certain way, and I think I was like that too, but when I was working on this album, I really got to have this deep dive into who I am."The song most emblematic of this is "Long Way Long Ride," Yeonjun explains. "That's really about my own story, and it really holds all the raw emotions that I've had...'Long Way Long Ride' is the most authentic and almost autobiographical."While I venture into different sounds and genres, I thought it was very important that there's at least one track that really talks about what I'm feeling at the moment, a track where I can really be 100% true to myself," he adds.Another standout is "Fxxking Star" since its lyrics further illuminate Yeonjun's passion for performing in spite of fear."I think I'm still nervous. I'm still scared of things. I'm still that soul that stays nervous. So even though I was shouting confidence through the song, my mindset was not about like flexing how cool of a person I am, but I just wanted to be very serious about my work, and I wanted to portray and deliver how much I adore my work," he says.Growth through of making 'NO LABELS: 02'One of the challenging aspects of making "PART 02" was the choreography, Yeonjun says, having helped to create it."It's easy to look cool on stage, but the choreography has to be catchy, it has to be intuitive ... so it actually took me quite a long time to work out a really good choreography," he says.But "the biggest challenge was making sure that I know what music is the most me," Yeonjun says."I just hope that with every album that is to come, and that have come, that my unique characteristics and style show through, and then they become more deeper and deeper, so people can feel that I have this very distinct character and style," Yeonjun says, "Through those installments I'm going to grow as a person and as an artist ... so it's like a virtuous cycle."
