Brian Price, 43, and Susan Tetrault, 36, were found naked and butchered in bed in Clapham, South London, on July 13, 1986, and the case remains unsolved on the 40th anniversary13:57, 11 Jul 2026An armed robber cleared of the double axe murder of a couple in their bed has told one of the victims' step sons that he hopes the killer will be jailed.Brian Price, 43, and Susan Tetrault, 36, were found naked and butchered in a suspected gangland attack in Clapham, South London, on July 13, 1986. But police closed the case when convicted bank raider Dean Alexander was acquitted of their murders at the Old Bailey.Brian's step son Ray, 66, has now compiled an 82-page report on the case with criminologist Dr Kirsty Bennett and has presented it to the Met Police on the 40th anniversary of the unsolved murders.Speaking as he prepared to hand over the dossier, he said: "We are hoping that with this evidence and any forensic evidence that the Metropolitan Police have can enable them to reopen the case and we can finally have somebody brought to justice."The case was not reviewed for 37 years because police classified it as "detected" due to a suspect having been charged. Ray is calling for the loophole to be closed so murder cases where a defendant is cleared are also subject to periodic re-examination by cold case officers.Scotland Yard said last week that Brian and Susan's murders are being reviewed and items have been submitted for further forensic tests.Ray, a retired fire training consultant from Birmingham, has spent 13 years investigating and has tracked down Alexander who has changed his name and is now the director of a counter surveillance company that claims to supply "government and corporate sector".Mr Alexander said to Ray in a text message last year: "I knew nothing of what Brian was doing or who he was involved with. I sincerely hope that it furthers your search for whoever was responsible for your dad’s death. I had not doubted your intentions were genuine. For me I need again to close this complete nightmare chapter in my life."In another message he added: "I am of course more concerned for my wife who also had the same treatment I did and should not have to relive these horrible events. My children have no knowledge of it and why should they? By the same token I respect your aim to try and ascertain who was responsible."Ray said Mr Alexander, who denied any involvement in the murders, has declined to meet him to discuss the case.Brian and Susan were killed in her first-floor flat with an axe she kept to chop wood. Pillows had been put over their faces and they were so mutilated they had to be identified by fingerprints.Brian was a high-level drug trafficker and in jail he met robber Alexander, then 25, and the pair are believed to have planned to import heroin from Turkey with a Cypriot gangster. The deal is thought to have fallen through and the men had just returned from the Mediterranean island when Brian and Susan were murdered.Alexander, then a budding rock guitarist, admitted being in Susan's flat on the night of the killings.Article continues belowHe said he left to visit his girlfriend but ended up walking the streets all night because he was unable to see her. Brian's ring and contacts book were found at Alexander's home. He also had £1,000 of the dead man's cash. But a jury took 90 minutes to acquit him after a two-week trial.A Met Police spokesperson said: “Officers are reviewing information provided by a family member of Brian Price on Tuesday, 7 July.“This case has been under review since the Met was first contacted by a victim's family member in 2023. As part of this review, evidence has been submitted for further forensic assessment.”
