Police have launched a murder investigation after former MP Ann Widdecombe was found dead at her home in Devon.

A 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murdering former British cabinet minister and ex-MP Ann Widdecombe has been released from custody and is no longer part of the investigation, Devon and Cornwall Police have said.

The man was arrested on Friday, a day after Widdecombe, 78, was found dead at her home in Haytor on Dartmoor. Police have since confirmed that he has been eliminated from their inquiries.

According to ITV News on Saturday, Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said investigators remained focused on identifying those responsible for the killing.

He said, “Our priority remains identifying those responsible and ensuring that all available evidence is thoroughly examined.
