The government has decided to upgrade the capacity of nine power substations in Rangpur to secure electricity supply across northern Bangladesh.
To that end, it approved a proposal to procure the design, materials, installation and testing equipment needed to modernise the substations.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase cleared the proposal at a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday, presided over by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
The ministry later said the approval covers procurement under the "Network Infrastructure Development and Modernization of Power Distribution System" project in the Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) area.
NESCO, a Bangladesh Power Development Board entity, supplies electricity to customers across 39 Upazila towns and urban areas in 16 districts of the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, through 60 sales and distribution units.
