A delegation from the Oyo State Government was on Saturday denied access to rescued victims of the Oriire Local Government Area abduction who are currently receiving medical attention at the 2nd Division Medical Centre, Ibadan.
The delegation, led by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, included the Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Adewumi Ajetunmobi; Special Adviser on Security Coordination, Major General Tokunbo Omoniyi (rtd); former Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Professor Temitope Alonge; and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
The officials had arrived at the military facility on Saturday morning to assess the condition of the victims and offer support as part of the state government’s commitment to their recovery, but they were stopped at the entrance and prevented from seeing them.
Sources at the facility said some soldiers on duty turned back the delegation, citing instructions from higher authorities as the reason for restricting access.
