DUBAI: Syrian Dubai-based designer Rami Al Ali drew on the shared heritage and landscapes of the Middle East for his latest Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2026-2027 couture collection.
“Threads of Light: A New Dawn” explores common threads of “identity, craft, sun” and the deserts that unite the region, informing a refined, dramatic wardrobe that traces the shifting hues of the day from dawn to dusk.
It is described as “a collection that reflects on the enduring ties that have shaped the cultural landscape of the Arab world for centuries. Rooted in a shared heritage that stretches across the Gulf, Syria and beyond, the collection explores the invisible threads woven through craftsmanship, architecture, trade, migration, poetry, music, and collective memory.”
The opening look, featuring geometric folds and mother-of-pearl embellishments, referenced the ghutra — the square headscarf traditionally worn across the Gulf. Al-Ali said the garment, when worn by a women, symbolized “resilience and protection.”
The color palette echoed the changing light over the dunes, moving from pearlescent whites and golds to shimmering grays and blacks. Layered mother-of-pearl sequins and crystals evoked the texture of palm trunks on sleek column gowns, while the weave of an asymmetrical gold dress was inspired by the fabric of traditional desert tents, described by the label as “rough, natural [yet] very luxurious.”
