It means 2026 is already a record year, being the first to record temperatures of 35C on six separate days.‌Even as far north as Yorkshire is bracing for a blast of 33C today (Saturday, July 11) according to recent weather maps which show vast swathes of the country is facing temperatures well above the seasonal average.‌Emergency services are now bracing for a busy weekend as they warn of "extreme" wildfire risks.The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has urged people not to use disposable barbecues in the summer heat, over fears of the dry heat leading to fires.‌The fire service is not the only one feeling anxious, either. The Metropolitan Police is worried about excessive calls, particularly with England set to face-off against Norway in the quarter-final of the Fifa World Cup later tonight.The match is due to kick-off at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, at 10pm BST.However, as extreme weather conditions continue to grip the rest of the world too, the US National Weather Service predicts high temperatures could feel as hot as 43C and forecasts of thunderstorms and lightening is also on the cards.‌FIFA rules stipulate any lightening within an eight-mile radius of the stadium triggers an automatic suspension of play, potentially moving kick-off to a later time if not postponed altogether.The Met Police are urging people to avoid getting in touch for non-emergencies amid a surge in 999 calls during the hot weather and World Cup, My London reports.Deputy Metropolitan Police commissioner Matt Jukes called on the public to “hold back” on non-emergency calls while on LBC Radio yesterday.‌"We’re going to see more calls. We’re going to see more drinking. I hope we’re going to see more great goals for England, and we’re going to see success," he said.“Call us on the things we need to. Please hold back on the calls we don’t need to take.
