Dominica has revoked the citizenship of the son of a recently assassinated Iranian official, citing alleged misrepresentation in his application for a so-called “golden passport,” according to an investigation by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).For all the latest headlines, follow our Google News channel online or via the app.The OCCRP reported that Abolfazl Shamkhani obtained Dominican citizenship under the alias “Sami Hayek,” and that authorities later determined key information had been concealed during the application process.In a letter dated March 27, 2026, and obtained by the OCCRP, Dominica’s state minister in the Ministry of Labour, Daren Pinard, informed Shamkhani that his citizenship was being revoked “with immediate effect.”The letter states that Shamkhani secured citizenship in 2020 through the “concealment of a material fact,” specifically by failing to disclose that his father, Ali Shamkhani, was a senior political advisor to Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.Ali Shamkhani and Khamenei were killed, along with several other senior Iranian officials, in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on February 28.
