The Akpata Community Youth Council of Arogbo-Ijaw Kingdom in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State has accused Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa's administration of planning to resettle Ugbo-Ilaje people on the disputed Opu-Akpatakubu ancestral land.
The council warned that such a move could reignite the violent communal conflict that claimed lives and displaced residents in 1998.
Addressing journalists on Friday during a press briefing, the youth body alleged that it received "credible information" indicating that the Ondo State government intends to relocate some Ugbo-Ilaje people to Opu-Akpatakubu, a territory the Akpata community insists belongs to the Arogbo-Ijaw Kingdom.
The press briefing was organised by the President of the Akpata Community Youth Council, Jedah Gabai Stephen; the council's Secretary, Ogilibo Adeoba Peretun; Akpata Community Youth Leader, Utanghan Ebikontei; President of Tamaraubotei Zion Community, Pamotei Kenny; and President of Ojudo-Ama Community, Pouye Gabriel.
