Toronto is playing several games away from its home arena this season as part of an effort to build a fan base across the country, and Friday's turnout suggested the strategy is working. Wings head coach Jose Fernandez called the moment a reflection of where the league is headed, saying it "shows the trajectory of where the WNBA is."Tempo forward Isabelle Harrison, who finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, said the atmosphere carried extra weight for a first-year franchise still building its identity, adding that Canada's response "has been years in the making."Dallas Wings secure comeback win over Toronto TempoDallas Wings' Paige Bueckers (5) reacts after drawing a foul during the second half of a WNBA basketball game against the Toronto Tempo in Montreal, Friday, July 10, 2026. (Christopher Katsarov/The Canadian Press via AP)The game itself was tight for three quarters. Toronto led 56-52 at halftime and held a one-point edge after three, with Bueckers and Mabrey trading buckets down the stretch, Bueckers scoring 11 points in the third quarter to Mabrey's 13. Dallas then took over in the fourth, outscoring Toronto 24-10 to close it out. Jessica Shepard added a 20-point, 17-rebound double-double, Arike Ogunbowale scored 20 points with seven assists, and Azzi Fudd contributed 13 points off a balanced Wings attack.Mabrey matched Bueckers with 34 points on 6-of-9 shooting from three for Toronto, and Laura Juskaite added 25, but foul trouble limited Mabrey to under two minutes in the second quarter, and the Tempo could not sustain their first-half lead. The loss dropped Toronto to 9-13 and extended its losing streak to four games.Dallas improved to 15-8, completing a sweep of a four-game road trip that included two wins over Toronto, and now sits 1.5 games behind the Minnesota Lynx and Golden State Valkyries atop the Western Conference. The Tempo return to Montreal on Sunday to face the New York Liberty, with two more games scheduled in Vancouver as the expansion franchise continues testing how far its audience stretches across the country.
