ORLANDO Pirates part ways with Melusi Buthtlezi.
Orlando Pirates have parted ways with goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi, the club announced on their social media platforms on Friday night.
Buthelezi arrived at Pirates three seasons ago from TS Galaxy. However, he saw limited game time at the club – playing only 22 games and keeping 12 clean sheets – as he largely served as the deputy to No 1 Sipho Chaine.
After keeping an unprecedented 21 clean sheets in all 30 league matches last season, inspiring the team to their first Betway Premiership title in 14 years, Chaine lauded the support he received from his fellow shot-stoppers, including Buthelezi.
However, Chaine is set to have a new understudy next term. Pirates thanked Buthelezi for his conduct at the club, where he was part of a squad that won six trophies: the league title, three MTN8 titles, one Nedbank Cup, and the Carling Knockout.
