Russian authorities have acknowledged a gasoline shortage for the first time following Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries, which caused oil refining volumes to plummet to their lowest level in more than two decades.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the ASTRA Telegram channel.

It is noted that Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak acknowledged problems with supplying fuel to citizens due to Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries.

“We must acknowledge that there are problems and a shortage, which is why we are seeing lines. Or sometimes gas stations operate intermittently. The shortage is, for obvious reasons, due to the fact that our oil refineries are partially shut down for repairs because of the airstrikes,” he said.

According to the official, the problem is also being exacerbated by scalpers who are driving up gasoline prices. However, “vertically integrated companies—our main producers of petroleum products—are keeping prices in line with inflation,” Novak assured.
