The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a massive protest to reclaim temple properties following a thorough investigation, said Nainar Nagenthran, the party’s Tamil Nadu president, on Friday.Mr. Nagenthran told the media in Coimbatore that land titles were issued hastily for 3,085 acres belonging to four temples under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department in Karur district on a single day based on the recommendations of the district Collector and the Joint Commissioner of the HR & CE Department. He raised doubts regarding the basis on which the titles were granted. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the HR&CE Minister should provide an explanation for this move.On the government providing jobs on compassionate grounds to the families of the individuals who died in the Karur incident, he said that while the BJP did not oppose the provision of employment, priority should have been given to heirs awaiting jobs in various departments and to those who had passed competitive examinations. Allocating jobs based on seniority and established priority criteria would have been the correct procedure.Responding to questions about the screening of the Chief Minister’s Karur event in government schools, he said such incidents had never occurred before and showing political events to school students had set a bad precedent. He also condemned the practice of declaring school holidays for the Chief Minister’s visits. Published - July 10, 2026 09:16 pm IST
