Hallelujah! We seem to have reached the interval in the royal pantomime. Time for a cool down and an ice cream. After all the “Yes he will” (stay at the Palace)… “Oh no he won’t”; and “Yes they will” (meet the King)… “Oh no they won’t”, could it be that the royals are progressing from soap opera, through farce to an interlude of quiet, if hesitant, harmony?
Harry and drama seem to walk hand in hand, but this week has taken the biscuit. The row over protection, the mix-up over accommodation and the humiliating lawsuit defeat had us all wondering what on Earth would happen next.
The answer appears to be some softly-softly negotiations about Harry, Meghan and their children finally having a meeting with the King. Both sides seem to be sending out signals that a reunion is possible, or at least they’re not denying it which, in the weird world of royal communications, is always significant.
It’s all cloak-and-dagger stuff, but it’s believed the Sussex family could be staying at Diana’s ancestral home, Althorp House in Northamptonshire, where her brother, Earl Spencer, now lives. That part of Harry‘s trip appears to have been on the cards for some time. The website stated clearly in advance that the house and gardens would be closed on 10 and 11 July (undoubtedly at no small cost to the Earl in loss of visitor revenue).
