Former Chief Minister and Congress leader V. Narayanasamy has once again criticised Congress’ erstwhile ally, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, for the INDIA bloc’s failure to fight the 2026 Assembly polls in a cohesive manner.Participating in a protest organised by the Congress against the policies of Central government at Pathukannu village, he said there were several reasons behind the defeat of the Congress party in the polls. “To an extent, we [Congress party] ourselves have to be blamed for the defeat. But the main reason is the betrayal by our then ally, the DMK,” he said.The Congress leader said the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, was in favour of entering into a pre-poll alliance with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam headed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. “Mr. Gandhi wanted to have an alliance with the TVK before the polls. But we did not heed to his advice,” Mr. Narayanasamy said. Just a few days ago, the former Chief Minister at a press conference had attacked the Dravidian party by stating that the Congress lost the election because the DMK had snatched away winnable seats from the party during the seat sharing talks held before the Assembly polls. At Pathukannu, the former Chief Minister also attacked the AINRC-BJP government for its failure to fulfil Constitutional responsibilities after assuming office. “Even two months after assuming office, the ruling-combine was not able to conduct election for the Speaker post and distribute portfolios among the Ministers,” he said. “Chief Minister N. Rangasamy thinks he is bigger than the Prime Minister of the country. It is customary of Chief Ministers, after swearing-in, to call on the Prime Minister. All other Chief Ministers who got elected along with our Chief Minister have gone to Delhi and met the PM. But Mr. Rangasamy has not met the Prime Minister because he thinks he is bigger than the PM,” he said. Published - July 10, 2026 08:18 pm IST
