The boy was recovered from the water and treated by emergency services at the scene.Despite initially responding to treatment, he died at 8.50pm yesterday, with his parents at his bedside in hospital. A statement from Lincolnshire Police read: "Our thoughts are with [the boy's] family and friends, and we send our condolences at this incredibly difficult time."We appreciate that such tragic news will be difficult to process as a community and anyone affected is encouraged to seek help and support where they need it. We respectfully ask that people do not speculate or share information that has not come from an official source as inaccurate information can be very upsetting to family and friends."A file will be passed to the coroner." Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident and Lincolnshire Police have reminded people of the dangers of entering open water.The force said: "While many people are looking for ways to cool down in the heat, we also want to remind everyone of the dangers of entering or swimming in lakes and open water. Following Declan's death, his father, Carl, said: "Our darling boy Declan was a funny and outgoing young man who loved his fishing and his football."He had a very cheeky smile and the personality to match. He was very much loved by his friends and family, and will be missed dearly by many."With his tragic and unexpected passing on Sunday 24th May at Swanholme Lakes, we would like to raise awareness about children playing near any rivers or lakes in the hot weather. Please can all parents, friends and family make their children aware of the dangers surrounding water."Fresh calls for people not to enter open water have been made by leaders, LincolnshireLive reports.
