Telugu film director G. Ashok Babu was questioned by the Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Friday in connection with a ₹3.5 crore cheating case registered against him.The case was booked following a complaint by one Hanumantha Rao, who alleged that the director collected ₹3.5 crore from his family after promising to launch his son as a lead actor in the Telugu film industry.According to the complaint, the money was paid in multiple instalments after Ashok Babu allegedly assured the couple that he would introduce their son as a hero. However, the promised film was never made, and despite repeated requests, the amount was not returned, prompting the family to approach the police.Based on the complaint, the Cyberabad EOW registered a cheating case last month and subsequently issued a notice summoning the director for questioning.During the interrogation on Friday, investigators questioned Ashok Babu about the financial transactions and the assurances he had made to the complainant’s family. Police are also examining the money trail.Ashok Babu, whose full name is Gudluri Ashok Babu, is known for directing Telugu films Pilla Zamindar and Bhagamathi.Police said the investigation is continuing and that the director may be summoned again for further questioning if required.
