The Department of Chemistry, School of Chemical Sciences in the Central University of Karnataka, organised a two-day workshop-cum-seminar on “Mass Spectrometry-Based Proteomics” to provide students, research scholars and faculty members with hands-on training in advanced proteomics techniques, mass spectrometry and data analysis.Inaugurating the programme in Kalaburagi on Wednesday, Central University Vice-Chancellor Battu Satyanarayana said that effective utilisation of modern research infrastructure is essential for building Viksit Bharat 2047.Stressing that theoretical knowledge must be complemented by practical skills in today’s competitive world, he urged students to make full use of the university’s advanced laboratories and sophisticated research facilities to strengthen their research capabilities and contribute to national development.Referring to Nobel laureate C.V. Raman, Prof. Satyanarayana observed that many landmark scientific discoveries have been made despite limited resources, whereas today’s students have access to world-class research infrastructure.He encouraged them to pursue innovative research with dedication, while emphasising the importance of time management, perseverance and continuous learning. He also announced that the university is planning to introduce NET coaching classes for students on campus.Technical sessions on sample preparation, high-resolution mass spectrometry, proteomics data acquisition and data analysis were organised during the workshop.Balabhau Warkad of Thermo Fisher Scientific, Hyderabad, Hemalatha Balaram of JNCASR, Bengaluru, and Mahesh J. Kulkarni of CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, conducted the sessions.Addressing the valedictory session on Thursday, Registrar R.R. Biradar congratulated the Department of Chemistry for successfully organising the programme and urged research scholars and faculty members to effectively utilise the knowledge and skills gained during the workshop in their research and academic pursuits.
