Brandon Wilkie, 21, admitted causing grievous bodily harm to Kyle McHugh, another apprentice rider, after he goaded him about the number of winners he’d ridden.‌Ipswich Crown Court heard the pair had been out for a drink and were on their way home when McHugh asked him: “When did you last ride a winner?”. Wilkie told McHugh to “just leave it” and said “Are you happy now”’. Then when they arrived outside the flat they shared in Exning, near Newmarket, Wilkie punched him in the face, according to a report by the East Anglian Daily Times.‌McHugh fell to the ground and Wilkie continued to kick and punch him in the stomach and legs, said Adam Budworth, prosecuting.‌He was helped to his feet by Wilkie who apologised, and when Mr McHugh said he didn’t know why he had attacked him, he replied: "You need to have some manners."Wilkie subsequently sent a video of McHugh’s injuries to his racing friends with a comment about "putting manners on him".‌McHugh was treated in hospital for a broken nose, fractured eye socket, fracture to the left of his jaw bone, six chipped teeth and a cut to his eyelid.Wilkie admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm in August last year and was given a 14-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to McHugh.Article continues belowSentencing him, Judge Samantha Leigh said it was unfortunate that Wilkie had filmed Mr McHugh’s injuries and sent it out.
