Ukraine has rejected accusations that it was involved in the 2022 explosions that destroyed the Nord Stream gas pipelines, with the country’s prosecutor general saying there is currently no evidence linking Kyiv to the sabotage.
The statement was issued as a former Ukrainian soldier appeared in Germany on charges related to the blasts. The suspect, identified as Serhii K., is accused of helping organize the operation and faces allegations of being a co-perpetrator of a war crime. He has denied the charges.
German investigators believe the attacks were carried out on orders from Ukrainian state actors, although Berlin has not publicly identified those allegedly responsible.
Ukraine’s prosecutor general said an internal investigation has so far found no indication that Ukrainian state institutions or individual officials were involved in the destruction of the pipelines.
“At the same time, the investigation into these circumstances is not yet complete, and the necessary evidence is still being gathered and examined,” the prosecutor general’s office said.
